The LAC believes that adult literacy is one of the greatest drivers of upward mobility in the US. The ability to read, write and speak English is critical to survival and success as a worker, parent and community member, especially in an information rich society such as the United States. Lack of these basic skills prevent many Americans from participating fully in what this country has to offer.
This website showcases data on populations most in need for literacy and English instruction and the potential and real impact that these and similar services have on their lives.
The website will draw on research conducted by organizations across the country, highlighting and linking to their reports and describing the data used. It will also review data collected and analyzed by governmental organizations, think tanks, universities, etc. to provide context. In addition, it will also feature tools and tips information for new researchers in adult education including the terminology used, tools for data analysis and the most popular sites for getting statistics related to adult education.
